FTSE 100 Index falls 0.44%
The U.K. stock market experienced a decline on Wednesday, as the FTSE 100 Index ended the day down by 0.44% at a level of 7,356.88.
Decreases Among FTSE 100 Constituents
Several notable companies within the FTSE 100 also saw their stocks decline on Wednesday:
- NatWest Group PLC (NWG) – Shares dropped by 3.08%
- Rightmove PLC (RMV) – Real estate developers experienced a 2.61% decrease
- Fresnillo PLC (FRES) – Precious metals company saw a decline of 2.36%
- Antofagasta PLC (ANTO) – Non-ferrous metals company recorded a decrease of 2.24%
- ITV PLC (ITV) – Broadcasting company’s stocks declined by 2.12%
Increase Among FTSE 100 Constituents
On the other hand, Admiral Group PLC (ADM), a non-life insurance company, witnessed the largest upward movement amongst FTSE 100 constituents. Their shares rose by 7.23% on Wednesday.
Additionally, clothing retail firm JD Sports Fashion PLC (JD) and mixed retailing company B&M European Value Retail S.A. (BME) experienced increases of 2.84% and 1.70%, respectively.
Other Market Movements
Aside from the stock market, there were also notable movements in currency and commodities:
- The pound strengthened against the dollar by 0.33%, reaching $1.2748, and against the euro by 0.35%, reaching €1.1692.
- Brent crude oil declined by 0.2% to $84.71.
- The yield on the 10-year gilt increased by 5.580 basis points to 4.647%.
