Travel and Leisure Sector Likely to Outperform in 2022 as ‘Normality’ Returns

0

The travel and leisure sector is expected to outperform as it is likely to benefit enormously from the normalization of activity, according to an Invesco report.

The sector is likely to benefit the most from the apparent weakening of the COVID-19 virus in terms of symptoms, as indicated by the data involving the Omicron variant. Growth is expected as normality nears with people learning to live with the virus.

The sector has underperformed the Datastream World Index by an annualized 10.4% over the last three years, with only the energy sector recording a worse performance down by 14.0%.

It has underperformed the index by an annualized 13.6% in the past year, marking the worst performance among all the sectors, followed by retailers down 11.8%, and media by 11.2%.
